I think Aithusa saved Morgana because she’s a dragon of the Old Religion. As well as Morgana, she (I also think it’s a girl) wants to see the magic take place in Camelot. Also, I think the druids are connected to the Old Religion (If you noticed the tattoo on Mordred’s shoulder, the same symbol was on the walls when Merlin finds Aithusa’s egg).
